Seminole High School, which is located in Sanford, Florida, was originally called Sanford High School. Sanford High was built in 1902, but it didn’t take long before the number of students grew so much that there was a need for expansion. A larger building was constructed and opened in 1927. At this time, the school was renamed, and has been known as Seminole High School ever since. Later, in 1961, a new school campus was constructed at the school’s current location and the old building was given to the junior high school.
Seminole High has a long standing history of being a fine educational institution. For many years, the school was ranked on Newsweek’s list of the top 1,200 schools in the United States.
One of the amazing things about the high school is the wide variety of athletic programs that are offered. Seminole High has programs for football, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, baseball, wrestling, weight lifting, beach volleyball, boys and girls lacrosse, fastpitch softball, boys and girls water polo, swimming, golf, competitive cheerleading, cross country, and even bowling!
There have even been some notable alumni that have gone on to play professional sports. A few of these are: Ray-Ray Armstrong, of the San Francisco 49ers, Jeff Blake of the Chicago Bears, David Eckstein of the St. Louis Cardinals, and Matt Kuchar, a professional PGA golfer.
The high school offers other exciting opportunities for its students in the form of special programs. One such program is their Aviation Academy, which uses the latest technology to train students and prepare them for careers in aviation and related industries. Another program called Health Academy prepares students for entry into healthcare related careers. International baccalaureate and Young Women Of Excellence are a couple of other programs that the school offers.
